LEGAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
--For Attorneys and Legal Professionals
Attorneys can earn California’s required continuing legal
education credits by attending ACWA’s Attorney program sessions
held during the conference. ACWA is an approved state provider for
the minimum legal education requirement. The conference Attorney
sessions are specific to water law and policy and are useful
to all attorneys and policymakers who work with water agencies in
California. For more information contact Lori
Doucette at the ACWA office at (916) 441-4545.
ETHICS TRAINING
--For Local Agency Officials
On October 7, 2005, the Governor signed Assembly Bill No. 1234. This law requires (among other things) that all local agencies that provide compensation, salary, or stipend to, or reimburses the expenses of, members of a legislative body must provide ethics training to local agency officials after they are elected to office and every two years (24 months) thereafter.
ACWA offers three opportunities for this training at both the ACWA Spring and Fall Conferences each year. In addition, interested parties have collaborated to create an on-line training program that will allow local officials to satisfy the requirements of AB 1234 on a cost-free basis. SPECIAL
DISTRICT LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION’s
Recognition in Special District Governance Program
The Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF)
has designed and implemented the “Recognition in Special District
Governance” program for special district officials to enhance
service to the public provided by special districts in California.
Designed especially for special district public officials and trustees,
the CSDA Special District Governance Academy is endorsed by the
Special District Leadership Foundation as the foremost authority
on special district governance in California.
The Recognition
is awarded to those individuals who complete the Academy as well
as ten hours of electives. The Academy is comprised of four curriculum-driven
courses, which were developed and agreed upon by special districts
participants and cover the essentials of good governance.
Special
District Administrator Certification Program
--For Special District Managers and Administrators
The Special District Administrator Certification program is for
management staff of the district. This is a voluntary designation
sought by individuals who strive to be the best. Administrators
with various academic and professional backgrounds as well as from
all size special districts can be candidates for the program. Special
district managers and administrators can receive Special District
Administrator Certification points by attending ACWA events.
To qualify,
administrators or managers must have a minimum of five years of
service with three years in a management position (or related experience).
These
two recognition programs are offered through the Special District
Leadership Foundation. ACWA is one of a group of organizations that
offer qualifying events for these voluntary programs. For more information
about the Special District Administrator Certification Program contact
Darcel Harris at the foundation at (916) 442-7887.
CONTACT

--For Water Treatment and Distribution Operators
Continuing education contact hours are required for the renewal
of all water treatment and distribution certificates. ACWA provides programs to earn contact hours for your career development at each Spring and Fall Conference. Contact Lori Doucette at (916) 441-4545 for more information.
CPA CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT
--For CPAs
For the first time at ACWA's 2007 Spring Conference in Sacramento, ACWA will be providing programs in which CPAs can receive continuing education credits for their license renewal. Contact Lori Doucette at (916) 441-4545 for more information.
ELECTIVES
--For JPIA’s Human Resources Certification Program
ACWA’s Human Resources program sessions may count as electives
towards JPIA’s Human Resources Certification
Program (HRCP).
The HRCP was
created with the goal of assisting JPIA members in reducing losses
by providing their HR staff, or those with this responsibility,
with the education needed to effectively incorporate human resources,
contract management, claims management, financial management, and
risk management programs, procedures, and practices, into their
operations. For more information visit www.acwajpia.com/training.htm.
