Department Descriptions

Accounting
ACWA’s Accounting Department is responsible for maintaining the fiscal aspects of the Association and related entities. The department processes the accounts payable, receivable and payroll. They prepare financial statements, oversee the performance of annual audits by an outside auditing firm, and bill members for their dues.

The Accounting Department also prepares the Association’s and related entities’ budgets in conjunction with ACWA’s other departments and the Finance Committee, and makes the approved investment with the excess operating funds.

Administration
The Administration Department provides the initial point of contact for phone and personal visits to the office. They provide written and verbal communication distribution among and between internal and external individuals and entities. The Administration Department facilitates the flow of information and materials among and between individuals and entities as directed.

They establish and facilitate processes in fulfilling the identified organizational needs of the Association by supporting established structures according to bylaws and policies for the nomination and appointment processes.

The Administration Department also provides management of the Association building.

Benefits
The Benefits Department provides the support for all ACWA member benefit program offerings.

Communications and Outreach
ACWA’s Communications and Outreach Department provides timely and accurate information on a range of issues affecting California water through newsletters, publications, briefings, web site and other services. It also coordinates a grassroots network through ACWA’s region structure to strengthen the Association’s advocacy efforts.

Executive
The Executive Department provides the visionary leadership in accomplishing the mission and overall goals of the Association. The department also provides the public voice and representation on behalf of the Association.

Federal Relations
Federal Relations Department works on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., representing ACWA member agencies before Congress and administrative bodies.

Information Techology
The Information Systems Department provides computer hardware, software, telephone and voice mail support to the ACWA staff. They perform all the data entry of cash receipts, orders, registrations, and subscriptions, as well as membership address and information changes and roster and label order fullfillment.

Meetings and Membership
The Meetings and Membership Department provides the program, marketing and logistical services for all conferences, seminars, workshops and briefings. The department is responsible for the development of recruiting and retention activities and the development and implementation of member service strategies for ACWA.

Regulatory Affairs
The Regulatory Affairs Department provides advocacy for ACWA members in regulatory activities by working with Association committees and members to analyze and research regulations and submit comments and testimony to key state and federal agencies.

State Legislative
The State Legislative Department represents California water agencies before the legislature and executive branch at the state level.
