MWDOC Announces Winners of Annual Water Awareness Poster Contest by Municipal Water District of Orange County Apr 19, 2023 Member Submitted News The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is excited to announce the selection of 40 student winners in the 2023 MWDOC Water Awareness Poster Contest. Each year, Orange County’s youngest water users are invited to creatively express what water means to them through hand-drawn posters. Orange County water providers and their business and education partners, promote the contest, encouraging K-12 students in their service areas to have meaningful conversations with their peers about using water wisely. This year, nearly 1,000 posters were submitted from 100 schools across the region! The top 40 winners, ten (10) from each grade band – K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 – were selected based on their artwork’s reflection of the theme “When in Drought, Every Drop Counts.” There were so many excellent submissions this year that 15 honorable mentions were also chosen and acknowledged with a certificate of recognition and a prize. All winning posters and honorable mentions are featured on the MWDOC website: www.mwdoc.com/postercontest. In June, student winners will be recognized at a unique outdoor awards ceremony with their families and teachers at Shipley Nature Center in Huntington Beach. The ceremony will include an art show, interactive learning stations, a scavenger hunt, prizes, and more! Additionally, MWDOC will submit five (5) of the winning posters to The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s (Metropolitan) regional poster contest. Winners of this Southern California competition will earn a spot in Metropolitan’s annual “Water Is Life” calendar and receive recognition during a special ceremony. Please join us in congratulating our 2023 student winners!
