MWDOC Reinforces Good Water Stewardship for Orange County Girl Scouts by Municipal Water District of Orange County Oct 27, 2023 Member Submitted News The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is taking steps to prepare the next generations of good water stewards. In September, MWDOC and the City of Seal Beach provided a STEM-based clinic for 21 Orange County Girl Scouts to receive their MWDOC Water Resources & Conservation Patch. Throughout the 2-hour clinic, Girl Scouts investigated how everyday actions can impact the quality and quantity of our water supply by building and testing a water filter, following the journey of a water drop through the water cycle, and exploring the challenges water providers face in delivering water to homes and businesses every day. City staff also led the Girl Scouts through a water quality testing exercise and demonstrated the start-up and shutdown process of their Lampson Well pump. By participating in these activities, the Girl Scouts experienced what it takes to provide clean, safe, and reliable drinking water to their communities. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is integral in shaping how we interact with and protect our water resources, from drought management and sustainable water use to developing innovative conservation methods. By incorporating STEM learning into the Girl Scout experience, girls are equipped with the necessary tools to understand the world around them and empowered to be part of the solution. MWDOC is dedicated to offering water education experiences that inspire Orange County’s youngest water users to be lifelong water stewards.
