MWDOC HOSTS ANNUAL WATER AWARENESS POSTER CONTEST by Municipal Water District of Orange County Feb 2, 2022 Member Submitted News ORANGE COUNTY – The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is now accepting student entries for the 2022 MWDOC Water Awareness Poster Contest (Poster Contest). The annual contest challenges Orange County students in grades K-12 to create original artwork that expresses their thoughts about what water means to them. This year’s contest theme is “#OCisWaterSmart.” For over 30 years, the Poster Contest has encouraged Orange County students to examine their relationship with water and discover how we can all do our part to protect and preserve our most precious natural resource. MWDOC receives hundreds of entries from students and classrooms across Orange County each year. Forty (40) winners are selected and recognized for their accomplishments from these entries. Winners receive MWDOC giveaway and water conservation items, framed artwork, and art supplies. Four grand prize winners, one chosen from each grade band—K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12—win an iPad Mini! Of the 40 winning posters, MWDOC will also submit five posters to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s (Metropolitan) regional poster contest. Winners of this Southern California competition will earn a spot in Metropolitan’s annual “Water Is Life” calendar and be recognized at a virtual ceremony. We are excited to offer an in-person, outdoor awards ceremony this year at Friends of Shipley Nature Center in Huntington Beach for students, their families, and their teachers. The ceremony will feature student artwork displayed in a gallery-style art show, and will include four interactive water lessons, a story walk, a scavenger hunt, presentation of awards and prizes, along with lunch and time to explore the Nature Center. The deadline to submit entries for the 2022 Water Awareness Poster Contest is March 1. A complete list of contest rules can be found at www.mwdoc.com/postercontest. Orange County water providers are encouraged to share this exciting opportunity with students, parents, and teachers across various communication channels. A contest flyer can be downloaded HERE.
